PHP

PHP

PHP is a server-side language and originally stood for Personal Home Page but now stands for the recursive acronym PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. PHP code is used in conjunction with HTML to create various web based content management systems (CMS) and web frameworks. One of the most common content managed systems is WordPress that is created using the code PHP language.

PHP is where the interesting stuff happens on the web and brings a web solution to life gathering data from MySQL databases and manipulating the results utilising HTML, CSS and JavaScript to display in an easy to use format. We utilise Object-oriented programming or OOPHP in most of our developments this enables us to create solutions that are modular and easily updatable without going through every single page to make global changes.

Symfony

Symfony

We develop using Symfony, a powerful and versatile framework that allows us to create complex and advanced web projects - but what is Symfony?

"Symfony is a set of PHP Components, a Web Application framework, a Philosophy, and a Community — all working together in harmony."

Symfony is supported by a huge community committed to taking PHP to the next level. The Symfony philosophy is to embrace and promote professionalism, best practices, standardisation and interoperability of applications.

Using Symfony gives us a real advantage over core PHP development and enables us to really take projects to the next level. If you are looking for a competent and professional Symfony development house in the UK, look no further.

MySQL

MySQL

MySQL is a server side package and in essence is a database. Data is stored within the MySQL database and queries are run through PHP to extract the data, that is then in turn manipulated with HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create the web applications we all use. MySQL databases can become large beasts with many 100’s of thousands of lines of data resulting in large database files.

Thought and structure of the MySQL database will ensure speed for searches of database queries that in turn will result in either slow or fast loading websites, it is clearly a priority to optimise the MySQL database to enhance a user’s experience. Examples of data stored within a MySQL database can be anything from product information, shopping cart contents, HTML page content, navigation content, users details etc etc.

Javascript

Javascript

All web developers should understand and utilise HTML and CSS to build and style web pages. JavaScript is the 3rd core technology used in web content production with the majority of websites employing it. Most modern web browsers support the use of JavaScript without the need of a plug-in.

We utilise JavaScript for a variety of desktop and mobile web applications to enable client-side behaviour to standard HTML and CSS pages.

Examples of JavaScript are loading additional content or submitting data to the server using Ajax without reloading the page. Movement of page elements, validation of form fields and one of the most widely used JavaScript functions, tracking the usage of a website via web analytics.

And many others

And many others

Listed above are the main technologies used every day. In addition depending upon the projects requirements we may utilise other technologies including React native, JQuery, node, NPM, SASS, REST, OAuth, SSL, Kohana, LAMP, WAMP, Vagrant, phpMyAdmin, Java, ObjectiveC and many, many more. Why do we need to know all these technologies? To make the web solution work in the most effective way for your project.
